Beneath This Wave

As a child I lived beneath this wave, beside Jim Morrisey's shop, in a house owned by Brendan Bowyer's mother. For three months every winter we had weather like this. As a baby, instead of the usual blue rompers and white bonnet, my mother would dress me in oil skins and a life jacket, and had buoys attached to the side of the pram, so as I could float up the hill. Our house was always flooded back then and we often caught fish in the rat traps. Babies were babies in those days, children today have it too easy
